I did do a search with no success. Like a fool I unpublished/deleted the links along the top of the calendar(monthly view and for the life of me I cannot see in the configuration where to enable them again. Any pointers to the right direction?

You set the config options within the specific menu item? What JEvents theme are you using? Is there a URL we can look at?
