custom fields in repeat event edit layout

I have two custom contact fields (email and tel included in the edit event page custom layout. They show up as they should in all front end event creation and editing pages including a repeating event if editing the main event, however, they are not available for editing id selecting edit this repeat. Is this by design and is there any way of getting them to show up?
