I am unable to display the calendar event details on an IPAD. I can display details on WIN10 using Firefox or MS Edge. IPhone also does not display correctly. Running Joomla 4.4.2 using PHP 7.4.33 with JEvents 3.6.78. Site template is J51 Magnolia. I am not see any errors just no results when I click "Click to open event".

I also am having issues with the calendar menu item not opening if there is a sub menu item. I can open the calendar by manually entering the menu link. This occurs on all OS types.

Is there a URL we can look at?

Does it work ok in Safari on a computer?

Yes, the calendar does open on a MAC desktop using Safari.

After some experimentation I found that a POP up came up (image attached) if I held down the "Click to open event" link. (image attached)

Web site is sftarc.org, Menu item is "Calendar".

Very strange.

Can you try a few things for me please.

1. Does it work on this page https://sftarc.org/index.php/calendar-jevent?jEV=geraint (using a different theme)
2. Does it work with a different template at https://sftarc.org/index.php/calendar-jevent?template=cassiopeia
3. Does it work ok on our demo site at https://www.jeventsdemo.net/events-at-the-opera

I'm afraid I don't have an iPhoe or recent iPad to test with

This link behaves the same ...must hold link down to display details in pop up.
2. Does it work with a different template at https://sftarc.org/index.php/calendar-jevent?template=cassiopeia
Same behavior .... Must hold link in pop up down to view details
3. Does it work ok on our demo site at https://www.jeventsdemo.net/events-at-the-opera
Content displays on demo site.

I looked for some type of setting on my IPad related to opening links but did not find any setting. Are item 1&2 possibly using the same "mobile" CSS? I had no issue when my site was using Joomla 3.10.x. I did verify the calendar event open behavior on an test site running Joomla 3 and the calendar event opens with a click on the IPhone Safari browser.

so to confirm - you don't see this problem on the demo page but you do on all the variants on your own site that I gave above?

Could be some extra javascript that is being loaded - if you can confirm the above I'll look more closely for possible explanations

I re-tested and the behavior is the same on all options listed above. I did the test on an IPad. The demo site does not display correctly either. Most users would try and click and not hold down on the link. Also not sure if my users would know what option to pick in the pop up for open options. Open in preview works.

The behavior that I was describing occurs when the calendar is opened from a menu item. The calendar entry link opens correctly from Upcoming Events module. Seems to be related to the Menu access for JEvents?

I also had an issue with having an "Add Event" Menu item not displaying correctly when placed under the Calendar menu.

I also found that a double click on the calendar event (monthly display) opens the event details correctly. It's only when a user single clicks on the event that the preview window is what is displayed. This behavior was from the Calendar being called by a menu item. The upcoming events opens the details display with a single click.

Sorry to ask so many questions.

You are clicking on the text 'Click to open event' in the popup?

A single click in the event calendar opens the pop up. I tried clicking on the 'Click to open event' and in the pop box with the same results. When I single click the 'Click to open event" the pop up box goes away. Holding down the link displays a preview of the events details with an options list for how to open it. If I click on the details preview display it opens the details.

Short answer, yes I am clicking on the 'Click to open event' link.

So clicking 'Click to open event' closes the popup and doesn't open the event. I'll have a think about what could be causing this

"Watch this space..." as they say

I'm 99% certain I know what is going on now.

The popover is triggered by mouseover and focusin events - the apple touch device relies on the focusin event BUT when you click on the popover it triggers the focusout event which hides the popover before you get a chance to click the link. There is a 150 milliseconds lag built in but this may not be enough.

I've not found an easy solution - this is going to take some thought.

I made some changes to the JEvents Demo page at https://www.jeventsdemo.net/events-at-the-opera
does it work now. In essence I am disabling the tooltip for touch only devices pending a better solution.

I went to the demo page on my IPhone and clicked on the link below the picture. It did open a details page for the event with a single touch. This appears to work correctly. Never considered the difference between a mouse click and screen touch? Guess it is a different event.

Thanks let me know when you have a solution.

I assumed the IPhone and IPad displays were the same, they are not. When I try to open the calendar item on the IPad the behavior is still the same, must hold down link not just touch. The IPhone displays a article like page when I open the demo calendar item. The IPad has an actual calendar display. They do behave differently.

This trying to guess what is going on was getting rather silly - so I bought a basic iPad and have run some tests and believe I have resolved the issue on the demo site.

There isn't really a reason why it should not have worked as it was (and it certainly did in the past) so I suspect Safari in iOS may have changed its rendering or javascript link clicking mechanisms (specifically relating to links generated by javascript events).

Can you confirm is works as expected on the demo site and I will then roll out a new release.
