I've just updated my localhost site from Jevents 3.4.29 to 3.4.33. Now, none of my events are displayed in the front end - daily, monthly and yearly views are all empty.
Further, if I try to access an event directly from a link in, say, the Latest Events module, I get the message

'Sorry - this event cannot be viewed using the link provided. Its possible the item may have been updated while you have been viewing the webpage.'

The live site is at plantheritagedevon.org.uk - obviously, I haven't done the upgrades there yet!

Any ideas what has gone wrong?

In the backend, you will have a menu that displays the monthly view for you in the front end (menu1.jpg). Open this, then open the Options tab. There you will find the field to select your sub-categories (menu2.jpg.)

Hope this helps!

Best wishes

I had a similar problem in that only events were showing where I had specifically selected the category -- if I was trying to filter by an overarching category to which all the events were subordinate, none of them showed. Hopefully this bug will be fixed soon.

This is not a bug, but a new feature. See my post and answer at https://www.jevents.net/discussions/upgraded-to-3-4-33-no-events-on-website

to clarify - the reason for the change was that if you wanted to show events from a parent category but not the child categories this was not possible before. now that can be done. If you want to show events from child categories you will now need to select the child categories too. Sorry for the inconvenience the change causes.

I am confused. Having same problem but how do I select all items under the main category.
I have a main category called General Events, under this I have 8 sub-categories (school events, Church, Government, etc.)
From the front end display of the community calendar, it now shows Select Category. The default is General Events, if I click on the down arrow It show All Categories and General Events (which is highlighted). If there are sub-categories below that, they do not appear (at bottom of the window.). If I select All Categories, it resets to General Events???

In that case you need all these 8 subcategories (school events, church) individually one by one, but do *not* add the main category "General Events". If you also add General Events, you will not see any events. I am speaking about the backend, not from the frontend. See screenshot

As mentioned earlier the sub-categories do not appear. Normally if the drop down menu is at the bottom of the window it will place the items above, but this is not doing that. Do I need to revise the template to accommodate the selection process.

OK, so in the Jevents menu item, I simply left the categories field blank, and all the events showed up again as they should.:)

An additional 'benefit' is that all the event categories are now listed at the bottom of the monthly display - this looks a bit of a mess, but might actually be useful to someone!

First of all, thanks for your help.
Here is a snap shot of my month calendar.
If I click on the Select Category, it only gives me 2 items. Either All categories or General Events. Can't select blank. If I select All Categories, it resets and reverts to General Events.

I looked at the html source code of this page, here are the results of the select segment, as you can see only 2 items are shown for selection even though there should be 8 sub-categories.

</div><div><label class='evcategory_label' for='category_fv'>Select Category</label> <select name="category_fv" onchange="if (document.getElementById('catidsfv')) document.getElementById('catidsfv').value=this.value;submit(this.form)" id="category_fv" >
<option value="0">All categories</option>
<option value="296" selected="selected">General Events</option>
</select>

Please edit your menu item and select all the sub-categories you want displayed. There was a recent change which has caused some problems for users who didn't select sub-categories in their menu item settings.

WOW, THANKS Guys. The confusion is because a menu item was never created for a Jevents calendar item.
We had only setup a module for the month calendar and upcoming list, placed in the bottom left corner of the front page.
I have created a menu link for the monthly calendar and used that link to the month calendar display, that fixed the problem.

AGAIN THANKS FOR YOUR HELP GUYS.

Ahh that'll do it then :-) It's good to note, that you should always create a menu item for each component in Joomla!

Many thanks
