Hi

I have been working with JEvents v3.6.1 for a couple of weeks now. Unfortunately I am not overwhelmingly happy with it. The most striking innovation is the flipping side menu. Ok it gives more space to the dashboard. But to be honest: for me the dashboard is not all that important. In the vast majority of cases I go to «Manage events».

The problem with the flipping side menu is: it sometimes begins to nervously flicker. That means: it keeps very quickly opening and closing when moving the mouse on it. It makes me nervous and sometimes even crazy.

I preferred th «old style» quick link bar on the left that was always visible. Maybe it was not so stylish as the flip menu but it was clearly arranged and I found immediately what I needed.

Kind regards
Chris

Version 3.6.5 will be out in the next couple of days which will offer a config option to make the left icon bar respond to 'clicks' as opposed to 'mouseover' which should eliminate the 'flickering' and unintended appearance of the left menu bar labels.

I keep checking the availability of new versions almost every day. Today I was still on JEvents 3.6.1 and there was no update notification. The update source is https://www.jevents.net/newupdates/jevents_addon_updates.xml.

I was surprised to find JEvents Version: 3.6.5 Updated on 08 September 2020 on your website. So I installed it manually.

There is now a setting «Left Menu Behaviour in Joomla Administrator» with the options
- Mousover or touch
- Click or touch
- Hide left menu labels

I must admit that none of these options excites me. For me it is a nuisance and a clear deterioration compared to the previous versions. The daily used button «Manage events» is hidden and requiers two mouseclicks whereas the dashboard always pushes itself into the foreground. To be honest: I hardly ever pay attention to these coulourful charts. They don't impress me much and I do not see any benefit.

I don't mind if it stays, but it could be much smaller. Instead, the sidebar could be made permanently visible so that frequently used commands are immediately accessible. At least there should be a fourth option in the "Left Menu Behaviour in Joomla Administrator" settings.

Thank you very much!

Kind regards
Chris

Thanks Chris - I have now been able to figure out why the update wasn't showing from JEvents 3.6.1 and have resolved this on our update server.

I'll try to implement a left menu handler similar to the Joomla 4 left menu in the next release or two with a toggle button to show or hide the left menu options (with a session memory) and also I''ll add add a config option to allow you to use the manage events page as the landing page instead of the dashboard.

In the meantime from the dashboard if you click the 'number of future events' link at the top it takes you straight to the manage events page.

You can also use the Joomla component menu to go straight there rather than via the dashboard

JEvents 3.6.6 makes me happy. I am loving the new option «Backend Landing Page» = «Manage Events»!
