In the last few weeks, our ability to create new events has suddenly stopped, and we now just receive the message: Error 500: Could not instantiate mail function. The is consistent in both front and back end.

I've tried turning the notification plugin off and on again, but that doesn't make a difference. I have also tried to follow your instructions in relation to similar reported issues, e.g. Debug mode, error reporting level to maximum, etc. but am not seeing anything obvious. I'm afraid that I am somewhat of a naive user at this level.

I have applied the latest updates to no avail.

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I changed your JEvents config - on the event editing tab there is a setting at the bottom to control from whom the email is sent.

You had it sent as the "creator" which is the default settings - for some reason (possibly because the email account doesn't exist) this crashes for many event creators.

There is a problem with the AcyMailing plugin though - it should not be throwing a 500 error when this problem arises. It should just throw a warning message (as the Joomla core does).

I'm looking into this - an inability to send a notification email should not trigger a 500 error.

Can you include login details for a user that can create an event and ideally upgrade JEvents if needed).

Please put credentials in the private site details tab below.

Note that the events are being created - its a post event creation notification of some sort that is failing. I suggest you check for duplicated events that may have been created by mistake

Viewing the error page I see that its generated by AcyMailing.

I disabled the "AcyMailing - Override Joomla emails" plugin and was able to save an event - though I still get the "Could not instantiate mail function." message as a notice.

I'm not looking into which message is failing to be sent.

I'll try to add a PHP try/catch to avoid the 500 error in the future.
