I am thinking about becoming a Gold Member but first I would like to how easy it is to edit the calendar themes.

For example I would like the calendar to look similar to the JoomlaCalendar theme in the link below. As well I would like to know if I can add the legend that shows the list of events categories listed at the bottom of the week view (like the one shown in the example).

See the demo pages here (top menu) and experiment with the different layouts using the layout switcher. The one you are looking at in the link is similar to the ExtPlus club layout in Jevents which is available in several colours and widths.

Can I get the legend to appear at the bottom of the page as it does in the link to the example that I provided?

This is is controlled by the JEvents legend module and is a standard part of JEvents
