Offline Manual Payment for Event Attendance

Hello,
I am considering purchasing RVSP PRO for my client who wants website visitors to be able to record their intention to attend an event, but ONLY via offline manual payment. I have a few questions:
1) My client is already running JEvents version 2.1.13a. I had a 6 month silver subscription which expired. When I purchase the Gold subscription to get RVSP Pro, does this also install the latest version of JEvents alongside with RSVP Pro? If so, will the prior configuration and calendar data all be preserved when I perform the upgrade? Or, will I still be running the older, currently installed version 2.1.13a with the new RVSP Pro addon? Please provide details on this upgrade procedure.
2) Since my client wants to use the event attendance capability with offline manual payment only, does the website visitor that wants to record their attendance need to be a registered user on the site? If so, I need to create a user registration capability for the site so users can at some point record their event attendance. Or, can any website visitor simply register for an event with the intention to pay via offline manual payment?
3) Can you provide details on how offline manual payment works? When the website visitor records their intention to attend an event, do they enter their credit card information at event registration time and simply specify manual payment? If so, are they any security issues with storing the credit card information online? I need to gain a better understanding of how offline manual payment processing works.
4) Can Jevents be configured to accept offline manual payment only?

Hello Theresa,

1. You can just download and install the extensions you want. All should upgrade just fine from 2.1.13a prodiving you are on Joomla! 2.5. We always advise taking a backup first, just in case.

2. This is up to you, we have configuration option called 'Allow Email Based Attendance'.

3. Offline payment method just outputs information on a new page once they click attend. Like:

Thank you for attending, please send your payment to:

Bank account:
Sort code:

4. Yes.

Thanks for your help. I was under the incorrect impression the offline manual payment method would allow the user to enter credit card information which would get encrypted and stored for subsequent payment. The issue is that my client wants to allow users to book an event, but not pay online. She wants to be able to charge the user once she receives the information the user has booked the event. Is this possible via RSVP Pro using any payment method, whether it be Virtuemart or authorize.net?

Hello,

You could have Offline payment as default and always show some text fields which allow the input of details.

But, I would advise using an SSL Certificate to encrypt the sites data and also consult your local authority about data protection.

Thanks for the input. Also, I just saw that Virtuemart has an extension for offline credit card processing, so you can collect the credit card information online and process the payment offline. It requires an SSL certificate. Unfortunately, there's no reviews for it so I cannot evaluate it. So I guess another option is to setup payment for JEvents registrations usng Virtuemart along with this Virtuemart extension. Does this sound feasable? I haven't used Virtuemart so I don't know if this would be overkill for what I need to do.

Thanks. Since you've integrated with Virtuemart for event registration in RSVP PRO, can you provide input on the difficulty/effort to set this up? If I setup Virtuemart as the payment method for RSVP PRO, do I have to separately install Virtuemart and configure it? Or does the integration mean the essential Virtuemart components are contained within RSVP PRO? I realize of course that I would have to separately purchase and install the Virtuemart extension for offline credit card processing.

Hello,

The virtuemart integration means you install virtuemart first.

Then you install the RSVP Pro virtuemart setup and configure it as per our instructions. Then when you click attend on an event it takes you to the Virtuemart Cart and allows you to checkout through that.

The only issue is Virtuemart is not currently Joomla! 3.x compatible.

Although If you are accepting only manual offline payments. I do not see why you do not just add text fields to the RSVP Pro template? This would be much easier.
