Translation Guidance

We are very grateful for the assistance of everyone willing to provide or check a translation.

The language files have been reorganised and follow the recommended ini style format where each line contains one key and its associated value like:

key=value

The base of the translation is the English language file which is still subject to change during development. From time to time all keys are populated to the existing translation files. Where a translation is not available for a specific item the English value has been inserted preceded by the string "XXXX" to make is easy to find what needs to be translated.

Important:

All transation files are stored as utf-8 encoding. The file must not have a BOM(BOM stand for Bit Order Marker and is a small header to indicate that the said file is using UTF-8 encoding. This can cause errors in a PHP web application and is not used or required). Some editors offer to add BOM at the beginning. As Windows user never use notepad to work on the language file since notepad automatically stores a BOM . Use another utf-8 capable editor. There are some free editors available like babelpad or notepad++.

The current language files under development can be found in the subversion repository

To start a new language translation download the head revision from the English directory en-GB.
If you only want to complete an existing translation download the head revision of the affected language file.

Please provide translations as attachments in this forum. Create a directory with the following structure:

Example for Esperanto:

eo-XX/
|
|-- front/
| |
| +-- eo-XX.com_events.ini
|
+-- admin/
|
+-- eo-XX.com_events.ini

and create a zip, gz, tar, tgz or bz2 archive jevents-translation_eo-XX.zip and upload it to the this forum.
